"Inside My Brain"

"Inside My Brain" by Gerald L. Becker

Bronxville, New York

soluble oil pastel, crayon, ink, collage

13 1/2 inches long x 10 1/2 inches wide

The prevailing theme of this work is that of the chaos wrought by chronic illness/pain in a brain infected with abnormal neuronal behavior symbolically represented by the black nerve cells which act as a spider-like prison for the beautiful world of creativity as represented symbolically by the interweaving colors. Everywhere there is the strange juxtaposition of pain with the struggle of my radiant creative self to express itself. The creature emerging from one of the defective neurons is symbolic of the sensation of pain that slithers through my soul and body!
