mixed media - cardboard box, ink, charcoal, tissue, glue
22 inches long x 14 inches wide x 2 inches deep
This piece expresses my personal pain in the larger context of society. On the outside, the box is nothing remarkable. It blends in with the millions of other boxes in the world.
The outside of the box represents the physical normalcy of my appearances. When I walk down the street I portray the image of a young healthy girl, yet when you open me (the box) there is a world drowning in constant struggle and pain. No one can see past the outside layer-therefore nothing beyond the surface exists to anyone but me.
