We all have pain sometimes, but some of us who come to Marianjoy in Oak Brook Terrace, IL, experience pain at a whole different level, sometimes as tides of pain. The waves can be rough, choppy, bumpy, sprinkled with shards of pain as shown on this picture. After years of being dismissed and called a malingerer and a fraud by several doctors, I finally found a place to teach me how to manage the chronic pain I am experiencing daily. I felt compelled to visually illustrate it for those who don't believe that this type of pain is real. Message for my fellow sufferers – there is hope that your pain will ease with time and the rough waves will eventually smooth out even if for just a short period. Remember, even if you have flare-ups shown as shards, your pain will be manageable as long as you keep hope and laughter in your heart. Keep the tide of pain at bay. Get well my friends!
